What’s Dance therapy

The Dance therapy is a pedagogical therapeutic discipline typically nonverbal which encourages a change in the self perception in the persons and gives the possibility to creativity to come to light, creativity that often remains latent in the shape of corporal movement. All that is the  result of a guided journey, through the experience of the free movement stimulated  by music.

Methodology

The work methodology, based on the method Maria Fux, involves each participant who doesn’t restrict himself to learn some techniques or exercises, but accepts a unique experience which deeply  enriches the relationship, breaking the barriers that prevent the communication.

Maria Fux Method

Dance therapy is an encounter with our inner universe and, consequently, a journey of comprehension not only of ourselves but of the other one as well. When we come to know the feelings and the emotions that live in us,  when we look at our fears and our limits and we accept the dark parts of our lives in the same way as we accept the bright aspects, we have the possibility to regain the lost balance. Dance means travel this journey not intellectually but with our body.

The motivation forces proposed by the method have the aim to favour the reconquest of creativity, giving the possibility to everybody to express himself with movements that don’t follow the rigid and repetitive schemes of the different dance techniques but that, on the contrary, are always unique because they raise from individual experience and sensibility.

Dance therapy presents a language which belongs to any human being, independently from his physical or psychical situation, from his social, economic, human or age conditions. In the creative movement each one can express and affirm his own peculiarity, his own essence, his own diversity, experiencing the pleasure to communicate beyond the words in a wider comprehension of himself and the others. In this invitation to the dance, we gradually loose the fear of space which undertakes the role of a container, a home where to live, an element which is no more hostile and threatening; the body can know it, feel it, live it and hold it, indulging in a contact that let the progressive confidence in his own  expressive capacities flow.

Music and silence interchange in this creative universe together with other elements such as colour, forms and the stimulus offered by nature and by ordinary objects (used newspapers, bamboo canes, balloons, chairs, fabrics etc.) researching more deeply the confidence and the fun that dance offers as a course of growth and communication. The interpersonal differences at all levels are not representing an obstacle in the journey but an enrichment.

The term therapy applies to this dimension of the dance not as psychoanalytical study and interpretation, but for the real and concrete possibility to produce changes in any situation.

Change in order to go over, to welcome, to understand, to accept.

Dance therapy represents an instrument of great value which can be used by doctors, psychologists, health workers, physiotherapists, teachers to widen and deepen the possibility of intervention in situations of risk, of recovery, of social and physical uneasiness, starting from the acquired consciousness that in all human beings there’s a sensible part that can be recognized, roused, improved.
